Commercial vs Open Source

Commercial or proprietary software from companies like Microsoft® , SAP®  and ORACLE® is owned exclusively by its developer or vendor and licensed to user for usage only. Users of proprietary software usually must pay for licenses and only allowed to install it on computers as specified in the License Agreement. This is typically one copy installed only on one computer. The source code it is carefully protected by the developer, as an attempt to protect its intellectual property.
